Miami… is it a bit like Marmite I wonder? Quite a few people had told me they loved it before I had the opportunity to check out the ultimate American Dream for myself, and quite a few said the exact opposite.

So, having not properly holidayed in the USA since Elvis famously overtook me on mile 1 of a marathon in California 3 years ago (more of that here)… I loved having the opportunity to spend 5 days there with a fabulous friend a couple of weeks ago.

I give you my top 3 reasons to love Miami, and my top 3 reasons to hate it…

1. Love: The Beaches

Mile after mile of golden sand beaches… I mean, you can’t really argue that one can you?

2. Hate: The Fakeness

Fake nails, fake hair, fake boobs. We saw it all. (Apart from fake tans of course, we’re not in Glasgow now).

3. Love: The Food and Drink

You name it they’ve got it… beachside burger rooftop sushi…. and there’s no arguing the portion sizes either… (unless you’re on a diet, in which case don’t go to America)

4. Hate: The Prices

Eye wateringly expensive at times I’ve gotta admit… but you’re in MIAMI!! C’mon… Whadya expect? $35 for 2 cocktails…. that’s what to expect…

5. Love: The Architecture

It’s unlike anywhere I’ve ever seen- Art Deco opulence at it’s very best. Great for the ‘gram.

6. Hate: The Homelessness

Much like NYC, LA and probably many an American city these these days… in stark contrast to the wealth and rampant consumerism, it’s hard to not notice the rising number of homeless in America these days.

So there you have it. 6 thoughts on Miami after spending 5 days there… I have to say I would go back! Give it a go! I’ve seen flights as low as £330 return in recent weeks..
